There is just a button in poedit that compiles it to a .mo file. If you’re having problems, post your .po file to the German Translation user story on the project tracker, and I’ll try to fix whatever is wrong with it.

Please explain what it does to the sidebar, and if possible include a link to a screen capture. Are you running any other plugins? Are you using the default theme?

php echo bp_loggedin_user_domain() obviously points towards a users Main Profile page, do you know how I would then be able to change this so that it points to the others items such as Inbox, Upload a Photo etc…?

I don’t think you can install Kaltura and bp-album at the same time. I seem to remember Kaltura was doing something that made bp-album crash. To fix the problem, we had to deactivate Kaltura *and* delete the Kaltura plugin file directory.
