I actually had a similar problem today when I was experimenting with jQuery for a clients website. I had changed an “a” anchor to a “p” paragraph, and forgot to change the closing tag.

EVERYTHING but IE totally handled it gracefully, and IE died on it. I was debugging it for 45 minutes before I ran it through a validator, ugh!

You know, I read through the code in your post so quickly I didn’t even notice the first time!
