Avatar image upload is failing intermittently with a 500 Internal Server Error. I’m getting the 500 error more often when the image is 500-1000KB or more. If the image is a more reasonable size (e.g., 100KB or less), I rarely if ever get the 500 error.

Any idea what might be causing this problem?

  • Check your server logs, they will tell you what process failed.

Here’s the full text of the 500 error code:

    Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Here’s what the error log says:

Mon Feb 04 12:58:23 2013] [error] [client 24.252.134.17] File does not exist: /home/fmthost/public_html/500.shtml, referer: http://5mthosting.com/wjc-members/members/Daniel/profile/change-avatar/

I can’t make heads or tails of it.
