Advanced search & map search

I would like to create an open community, and since I’ve been using WordPress I am naturally considering BuddyPress.
One of the biggest features I am looking for is a searchable members’ directory. I checked out the BP test drive site, and it seems to me that the members’ directory basically has only flat test search…basically, it seems to me, that I can only search for a member if I know their name.
Ideally, what I want is the ability to search based on specific custom fields (i.e. advanced search, complete with dropdowns and checkboxes and what not). Is BP capable of this?
Another feature that I’m after, is the ability to search within a given radius from a point on a map? Is this possible?
