    Hello mercime,

I’ve seen you help others in this forum with integrating BP into their existing WP theme. I’m having no luck with the BP theme compatibility myself and wondered if you might give me a hand? If so, please let me know which theme files of mine you need. Thank you so much!

What theme are you using? We might have template-packed it already.

Also, if you’ve only just begun developing the site, I recommend using BP 1.7 beta 1 instead = download beta at link https://buddypress.org/2013/02/buddypress-1-7-beta-1/

Deactivate BP Template pack plugin and delete the 6 BuddyPress folders transferred to your theme’s folder in server namely: activity, blogs, forums, groups, members, registeration

Please don’t call out individual moderators directly in the topic title.

Paul – sorry, I didn’t know. Won’t do in the future.

Mercime – I created my own theme in Artisteer, and I’m thinking I have the latest version of BP since I only installed it 2 days ago….

@djpaul @39images I’ve removed my name from the topic which I forgot to do earlier :-)

From what I’ve seen so far, Artisteer themes are a tricky lot to try to template-pack. Some succeed, others don’t. Since you’re just starting your development, I suggest downloading BP 1.7 beta 1 https://buddypress.org/2013/02/buddypress-1-7-beta-1/ where you won’t need the BP Template Pack plugin unless Artisteer has rewritten WP regular templating system.

P.S. If you’ve already gone through the Appearance > BP Compatibility process, you’d have to deactivate BP Template Pack plugin, then remove the 6 BP folders transferred to your Artisteer theme folder in server to allow BP 1.7 theme compatibility to work.

Thank you so much! :) 1.7 certainly works better than the previous version. Is there a reason that the BP pages seem to be ignoring my page templates? Regardless of which template I assign to the BP pages, they appear as 3 column pages, which kind of smashes the content in the middle. Ideally, I’d like to either have a left sidebar and nothing else, or no sidebars on the BP pages. Is there a way to do this?

@mercime I don’t think that I have to edit the sidebars out of the BP pages do I?

No one? Sorry to keep searching here but this is one of the only things preventing me from launching.

@39images BP 1.7 uses your theme’s page.php to insert BP template parts automagically. You can either:
    1. Change theme’s page.php to have one sidebar or
    2. https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-compatibility/

Create copy of page.php rename to either community.php or buddypress.php open and edit the file to remove one or other of the get sidebars or dynamic sidebar calls depending on how the themes doing things.

BP will use this new file rather than page.php, WP will continue to use page.php where required.

I have drafted a codex page explaining basic theme compat usage with themes but some re-ordering needs doing with the codex before any more pages can be added.

Is there a way to hide postbullets just on the BP pages?

BuddyPress templates are or should all be namespaced with a top level ID ‘#buddypress’  this is allow the ability to create rulesets that target elements that specifically fall under this ID; thus:

    #buddypress ul {list-style: none;}

Would remove  bullets on ALL ul constructs generated by BP unless the BP stylesheet overloaded  that ruleset with something more specific.

Also always check the body element class as BP will place many specific BP class tokens in there that can also be used for creating unique selector strings  for rulesets.

@hnla do publish the Codex page already :-) Just need to add the Version, Component, Type and Context on the right and you’re good to go.
