BP Album v. BP Media

What is the difference. I’m only now revisiting using BP Album after a couple of years….and last I remember is that BP media was coming into the picture. At that point I bailed on BP Album because I thought it would become to big of a plugin if it became rolled into BP Media. Now I see that Album still exists separate from Media. Will these two ever be merged. I only need Album as is. It works really good.

I hope that they will remain 2 different plugins.

I think it will largely depend on what the users want. If thousands of people contact us and say they want a separately maintained BP-Album trunk, we can probably make that happen. At the moment though, it seems the vast majority of users really want to move on to BP-Media.

@foxly thanks for the response. I really do hope vast majorities start cheering for separate components. I’ve not seen any example of super huge bp plugins do well. So far I see Album doing nicely.

I can imagine, a bp media core plugin needed to enable addons BP Album, BP Video, BP Whatever else is included in bp media. this way the load is adjustable.

BP-media is very efficient and uses a modular architecture. When you switch off a block of features in BP-Media, they’re completely removed from the system …like the PHP files don’t even get loaded. BP-Media is actually significantly faster than BP-Album if you have more than a few hundred photos on your site. But hey, if people want to keep using BP-Album we’ll try and keep it updated.

I have some related question :) I intend to use the newest beta of bp album that you made for bp 1.5 , will I be able to update it to bp-media later? or I should wait until bp-media is out?

You will be able to import BP-Album installations into BP-Media, so yes, if you continue to use BP-Album, you’ll will be able upgrade to BP-Media when you feel like it :)

@foxly hey, just wondering when it will be available? I’m not one of those complainers, just a general question :) Will it be weeks or months? I can’t actually wait, I get the feeling it’s going to be amazing and well worth the wait.
