BP Privacy v1.0-RC1 is now available!
It is awsome but also a little sad that you feel as you do having put so much effort in to this plugin, it’s gracious of you to release it after deliberation and I do hope that a ‘team’ do take the plugin through to full release so your time and effort hasn’t been utterly wasted.
38 page manual! luckily I’m a bloke and don’t need to read manuals
I wonder and will watch with interest how many take note that this is a RC and the advice not to run on a production site
I just want to say thank you Jeff Sayre for you contribution. Hope you will focus on the positive aspects of the Buddypress community and ignore the… well…. the “not so nice” people. Good luck on your future endeveours.
@hnla are you kidding? Everyone will install it. I’m just hoping it can be used in core.
Oh I’m sure everyone will install it I was referring to what Jeff writes on that linked t page, I’m sure it’s probably rock solid but Jeff has marked it as a RC.
I can imagine working it into core will be quite a lot of work but yes have always thought that BP at some point needs to reach a stage where it should start thinking about aspects such as this.
wow, thanks for putting it out there @jeffsayre, looks fantastic.
Installed and active on a site ready to go live on march 1st. Thank you for creating a valuable tool that will be used by 28,800 sites. I’m building a social network that Ive put alot of money and invested alot of time in but the truth it may never reach the size of the group of people who will need this install. You know money is basically everything but even at 86% its still not all you may of not made money but you did make 100s happy. So good luck with your projects in the future. Also don’t forget to use this plugin in your bp sites then ask for help to the next team. Now people lets go find the all star team of developers to keep this thing alive. Oh and by the way what school do you recommended for becoming a web programer?
Uhm. This plugin should not be used on real sites. People neither read nor listen.
It’s not alpha or beta, it’s a release candidate. So even though Jeff reccomends not to use it on a live site it’s probably safe to do so. Anyways, if someone activates it it’s their risk. I’ll be using it and I read and listened, but chose to ignore what I read and listend to
Well it’s been said it wont work with 1.3 so I wouldnt even bother with it until it gets developers on it.
i just have this install on my site, all i can say is thank you jeff. u are a star…….. but i hope someone will step in to keep it alive
Well, then I’ll either have to wait upgrading to 1.3 or fix it… Anyways, I believe 1.3 is still a ways off. You can always wait for the next version and end up turning in circles chasing your tail, you know
@jeffsayre First, Jeff thank you so much. I’ve been working on my startup for several years. Pursuing it has involved changing career, country, learning to speak a new language, and going broke. I’ve had two false starts with unsuitable platforms, and one with an associate who took the idea, threw huge amounts of money at it and screwed it up. Finally, as my cashflow hit zero, I discovered BuddyPress and got back in the saddle. Your plugin clears the final hurdle between vision and reality. Without it, right now, my project’s potential couldn’t be realised. I really can’t thank you enough.
@modemlooper I can’t fault your logic, but waiting for that perfect dawn when WP, BP and all associated plugins form a cosmic alignment of perfect harmony will be a long wait, I fear. Personally, I’m going for it. Life is too short and real user feedback is everything. If it works out, then trivial inconveniences like plugin incompatabilities should be cheap chips to the crack team of developers I’ll be able to afford to hire, and if it doesn’t – I’ll get deeper into programming and learn to do it myself. It’s only php after all. Besides, what fun is life without a leap of faith now and again?
Just for the record, I have this running on a live site and have been testing with real users all night. Thus far, it’s working flawlessly. 10/10 and 5 Stars.
thanks @jeffsayre this adds the most wanted feature to bp.
one question : groups privacy will be in version 1.0-RC2. What does this feature add? is it up to the bp community to take up to its development?
I am a noob in wordpress but is a long time that i am reading Jefs Sayre work one simple and true comment.
Great work greatcoder and great man thanks
Yes, so true about perfect plugin alignment. I’ve tested and it seems to be solid on current BP. I’m waiting for BP dev team to take a look and see if it’s something to incorporate into core or if it’s worth continuing to develop as a separate plugin.
