    I am fairly new at buddypress and I have tried so many things to make this compatible with my site. I changed my theme, I downloaded the 1.7buddypress plugin and read all the necessary documents under the 1.7 tab, among other things. I am sure its a simple fix if I can get some help! I am still trying to get buddypress to display on my front page of my site but still do not see any sign of it. Is there something I am doing wrong or need to add? Please help.

    Could you perhaps explain what you are hoping to see on the front page.

    Buddypress will not just appear on the homepage of a website, just because you have installed it.

    If you wish to see links to the buddypress pages they you must familiarise yourself with the WordPress menu system: https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Menu_User_Guide

    If you wish to see a complete, specific Buddypress page as your homepage (Example – Activity) Then you would navigate to WP/Settings/Reading – Select a static page option, and choose the page you want as your homepage from the dropdown. (Again these are basic WordPress settings, not Buddypress)

    If the above solutions are not what you are looking for, could you please explain a little better in what you are actually hoping to achieve.

    Desped,

    Thank you greatly for the response. Let me be clear about what it is I am trying to achieve. I would like to put all the buddpress functions under a tab (page) called “community”. I have tried this but have been unsuccessful when viewing the actual “community page.
    Community Tab

    I have made this page the parent page and added all the other buddy press created pages under this parent page.
    Parent Page

    Then I put them all under the menu tab.
    Menu Page

    On the main page, I do have the “Community” page in the tabs. However when I click on this, this is all I see.
    No BuddyPress functions

    At this point, I am trying to troubleshoot this issue and not finding any resolution via youtube, and all the resources I have mentioned. I am wondering, should I be creating a child theme? Not sure what will show the buddypress functions under this community tab. Please advise.

    Thank you.

    when you made the custom menu did you click and select that menu and save it under “Theme Locations”? Its on the same screen in the dashboard that you created the custom menu to the top left.

    I can see you have created a mouse over drop down menu with the community page as the parent. As I’m sure you are aware, the community page is one that you created yourself, not one that Buddypress created during the BP wizard installation.

    You have no content in your community page because you have not added any. If you need some, you could add some but I would suggest that if you don’t, you should just add a custom link instead.

    The way to do this is to navigate to WP/Appearance/Menu’s:

    In the custom links widget located in the left sidebar add a # as the URL and in the label box add the text – Community. Then add to menu and replace your current Community (Page Menu) with the new one. (Remove the old one and delete the community page if it is no longer needed.)

    Other than that, all seems to look OK, your drop down menu with all the BP pages is showing and links to their pages seem in order.

    I hope this is the answer you were looking for, sorry if I have misunderstood your question in any way.

    As a suggestion perhaps you should consider altering the CSS in the theme to adjust your menu text. It is very hard to read. (The drop down links visibility are just fine) As for how to go about that, I would suggest asking the theme author over at Elegant Themes.

    Also, if my answer was the one you were seeking, I would advise that the WordPress forums would be a better place to start in the future. (Unless, your question is directly BP related of course)

    🙂

    bphelp- I sure did! The community tab shows in the menu on the front page.

    Dasped- I did try your suggestions and a few other things, but i think youre right, it could be some extra tweaking dealing with my I am currently trying to work this out with them although they claim not to support third parties (sigh). I may need to also directly consult with a professional bp developer. If you happen to know of any, definitely let me know. But I won’t give up till it’s complete. Thank you so much for your efforts. =)

    Here is a trick, when you create a custom menu as you have then create a dummy link url under custom links and label it “Community”. Add this to to custom menu drag it to the top above the other buddypress menu items, delete the dummy url in community you created and nest the rest of the buddypress menu items under it by dragging them in to the right so the are nested under the community menu item you created. Save menu! Works on my installation, and about 30 others I did.

    By the way when you created the custom menu you did not need to parent anything in the buddypress pages. The custom menu does this when you nested those pages in the custom menu screen in the dashboard.

    And one other thing if you did this right you do not need a page called community, the community nav item is just a place holder for all your buddypress page links. When you hover it clicking community will not do anything but clicking its subnav items will take you to the buddypress pages you want in the subnav, subtle but effective.

    This is great! Let me tell you. So this is what my activity page shows now as I click on it.

    The sides of the bars are a bit off. Is there anyway to line this up? Should i talk to the people at elegant themes for this one? What can i do? Again, your help is highly valued. THANK YOU GRATELY!

    @bphelp

    You could talk to the theme authors and maybe they will help simplify the process otherwise you will need to make the adjustments using a tool like firebug for firefox to target the elements. If you have made a child theme then you can add the adjustments to the style.css so when your parent theme is updated the adjustments you made will remain intact.

    @virtualsouq

    I will try researching the firbug for firefox. I am open to it if it helps to give a smoother cleaner page for buddypress. I think creating a child theme is the best option since it seems that changes occur always. It would help anchor some of the work that already works! I will get in touch with my guys at elegantthemes.com. THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!!
