I am writing to give you all a “heads-up” on conversations about where the direction this plugin is headed. As you know (if you follow the BuddyPress forums at any detail), a number of great plugins have been not well supported or simply abandoned. While many of these plugins are “too important to fail”, because of a lack of support, donations, and well… financial incentive, they often do fail and we (the buddypress users and admins) are left hanging with no recourse. There can be little doubt of the importance the BuddyPress has in the field of CMS and Social Sites, but unless something gets adopted into the “core”, there is little guarantee that any plugins, no matter how good, will have any type of lengthy life-span. We DO NOT want this to happen to the BuddyStream plugin, yet we need to better encourage the further development of this plugin beyond the occasional “atta boy!”.
I can not disclose the full details of what will be coming with this plugin at this time, but rest assured they will be both be good for both sides of the plugin’s people, users and coders. There will be another plugin update to address many of the issues that have been posted here coming shortly. In addition, an announcement about the coming direction of this plugin will happen at the same time. Stick with us, the best is yet to come.
