Group Hierarchy Tree not working !

  • any chance of breadcrumbs (you are here) across the top of all groups pages too?

@johnny2011, it looks like the AJAX group listings don’t work on your site. Unfortunately, the tree view only works via AJAX for the time being.

As far as bread crumbs, I will see if I can create a template tag to display that. :)

Ajax is all over my site. I am not sure why it is not working? any ideas? how can we fix it?

@ddean Would love to be able to nav the groups via tree mode. it would help ppl soo much.

There are several requests , including mine , it would help because right now it is not a “tree” hierarchy , in fact you can see the hierarchy only in groups where is the tab for it (but not tree which desire everyone) , one of users suggested to try to use dtree plugin which would be the best solution . I would also welcome some “subgroups count” in GROUPS directory to show to the people how many member groups has each Parent Group.

I’m also not seeing a tree view,

Is there any solution to check your AJAX addon

I’m not seeing a tree group

@johnny2011, @4ella, @studio8c, etc. The newest release has a true tree view from the Group Tree page. Pleas give it a try and see if it improves things for you.

@hkcharlie: Can you provide any details on this problem? For example: are you seeing something else where the Group Tree should be, or seeing the top-level groups but are unable to expand the child group lists?

I have 19 groups that show in the group list.
I set some up as groups within groups.
The Group tree just says “There were no groups found.”
    (I just upgraded also)

Some questions to help with troubleshooting:
What versions are you running (WP, BP, plugin)?
Are you hiding the normal group list, or have you enabled the group tree as a third tab?
Does the issue clear up or change if you click the Group Tree tab (cause an AJAX refresh)?

Love the plugin but I’m also having a problem with the plugin. I’m running the current version of WP, BP, and this plugin. The site is (staging site). I have about 30 groups in the hierarchy. I’ve selected to display the Groups menu item as well as the Group Tree menu item.

When I go into the Group Tree menu, I see all 30 groups (even those that are at a lower level). Those without sub-groups appear with a [-] (as per the .js code) and those with sub-groups appear with a [+]. When I click on the [+], it simply displays all of the groups again regardless if they are a sub-group or not.

I’m also using the fishbook theme which is a child of the default bp theme.

@pnerger: Thanks for providing details about your setup and a link to the site. I’m looking into the issue now. Do you mind listing any other plugins that are running on the site? It could be useful in diagnosing and resolving the issue.

Not a problem. There are a quite a few:

    BP Welcome Pack
Add All Nav Links to BP Adminbar
    BP Profile as Homepage
    BuddyPress Docs
    BuddyPress Mobile
    BuddyPress Profile Privacy
    BuddyPress Profile Progression
    BuddyPress Registration Groups
    Buddypress Sidebar
    Enhanced BuddyPress Widgets
    jQuery Mega Menu
    BP Group Extras

After some additional testing, I discovered that the BP Group Extras plugin interferes with the Tree display with V1.1.3. After removing it, the Tree display works great. I would like to use Group Extras and thus any update would be great.

    P.S. – now running 1.1.3

@pnerger: thanks for investigating this. I’ve got a workaround for the BP Group Extras issue, and a new release that incorporates it should be coming out shortly. If you want to get a head start, you can change line 549 in `extension.php` to:

    `if(!isset($bp->groups->current_group->id) && !$params) {`

This should make the plugin more resilient to issues from other plugins. Please let me know if you run into any other problems!

Thanks David. Just tested your fix on the latest version and it works great with Group Extras!

    Hi David

I can change the ‘group members’ to ‘sub groups’.

However, the whole tree view does not work because AJAX is not loading.

I now have a child theme, so i can mod the theme.

Any help on what code is needed please let me know!

I can give you a login to out alpha alpha site for quick testing.

pls follow me @johnnymestizo on twitter.

@pnerger: glad to hear it’s working for you :)

@johnnymestizo: I’m not on twitter, but you can email me any info to [my member name] at jerseyconnect dot net. I took a quick look at your site, and my first thought is that the storefront boutique theme is loading another copy of jQuery into the page. Have you removing that from the theme, or using a different theme?

So how about those breadcrumbs… Did that happen? :)

`bp_group_hierarchy_full_name()` – echo breadcrumb trail (no links)
    `bp_group_hierarchy_get_full_name( $separator = ‘|’, $group = false )` – build but don’t echo a custom breadcrumb trail (still no links)

Try it out! I’ve been meaning to document these template tags…

Finally, I got the tree to work. I had installed a plugin called WP-dTree, which I suppose was conflicting with David’s Heirarchy plugin. After I deleted WP-dTree, Group tree is working fine.
Great plugin, David, many thanks :)

@vijmenon thanks for the heads up! I’ll take a look at WP-dTree and see if there’s anything I can do.

I have a question about something like this….Is there a way to have the subgroups ect auto reflect in the parent group?

I am able to get the separator to be a ‘|’ but I want them all to be ‘>’ … any ideas?
