Image Compression/Upload Size Limit

I have major concerns about reaching my server’s memory/bandwidth limits using this plugin, is there anything that can be done to reduce the load on the server. For example, is it possible to reduce size of large images uploaded (perhaps similar to how thumbnails are automatically created) and/or set upload size limit somewhere?

In general, you’re going to need a large, powerful server if you’re planning on running an image hosting site. BP-Media us absolutely, positively, the most efficient algorithms possible, but there’s no way to get around the fact you’re serving-up *media* items that use many times the bandwidth of plain HTML pages.

You can set BP-Album and BP-Media to scale images to a maximum size on upload, but as Facebook discovered before they increased their image sizes by 400%, the resolution of digital cameras *doubles* every 18 months. If you set a conservative image size now, five years from now people will look at your images and think “OMG those look so bad”.

If you’re just hosting images, count on 50 MB of upload space per user. If you’re planning on self-hosting audio and video when BP-Media 0.1.9 comes out, count on 2 GB per user.
