Member profile data outside of members directory

Hello, I’m new to BuddyPress but have plenty of WordPress experience. I’m running WordPress 3.5.1 and BuddyPress 1.7.1, making use of theme compat.

I have created a page called ‘Members Directory’ which is associated with the Members component directory. I’ve added some profile fields using bp_member_profile_data( ‘field=XXX’ ); and am adding them into a custom sidebar which displays user information.

Everything is displaying perfectly when I’m inside the members directory but when I am on other pages the BuddyPress profile data does not display – presumably because this is outside of the scope of the members component.

I’d like to find a way of displaying this information outside of the Members component directory. I know there is a new BP_User_Query function, which sounds like it may be similar to WP_Query, and I’m wondering if I could use this. Unfortunately I can’t seem to find any documentation or info around the web on this.

Any help would be very much appreciated! Thank you
