Missing feature? re-distributing mailing list, like in google groups / mailman

  • Long story short, I’m basically using buddypress for a college course, and I have a situation where there is need to allow anyone to send an email (including attachments) to a single email address and that email would in turn re-send that message to everyone signed up with the group.

Now, from what I see that this is not readily available and before posting a feature request, I would like to go over this idea and hopefully make it a better request.

I will be looking into interfacing buddypress with mailman, and while I can do things separately (create and manage a re-distributing mailing list with mailman) for a single users group, doing that for lots of groups is inefficient and troublesome at best, so I think interfacing/integrating mailman and buddypress might be a HUGE step forward, giving buddypress features like Google-groups and yahoo-groups will only help to improve the market share of buddypress.

So, what do you think? Any idea is appreciated…

woah! crazy idea. This is going to be quite tricky, but very cool if it works in the end. Remember that facebook only added ‘reply to email to update a post’ recently. So I think this is an ambitious project. Sorry I can’t help more.

Might be crazy, but its certainly ambitious! :P

While researching, I found this,, Not wordpress, but interesting and should help with some ideas. besides, if I was using Drupal, maybe it would be ok to use that with Drupal commons. At least its a good reference. BTW, this og_mainlinglist is being used by BYU already.
