oembed works for blog posts and activity/status updates, not forums

Documentation for BuddyPress 1.5 claims support for oembed in forums as well as activity/status updates and blog posts. I can’t seem to have it working at all in forum posts. What am I doing wrong?

Just post the link in question (like a YouTube video) on its own line.

If you are using some forum plugin like a WYSIWYG editor, that might intefere with it.
