profile upload before account activation

  • It has always seemed weird to me that BP Default lets users upload an avatar before they activate their account. Thoughts?

Yes. Might make more sense to have it available on the screen after they activate their account. Although, maybe the idea was to give them something to do while they waited for the activation email to arrive.

I think it would also be good to have the function to upload an avatar be available to those plugins that hijack the registration process (ie. to collect payment). It would be nice to send them back to the upload avatar after doing the other step. I guess I could probably dig into the code and replicate it if I wanted.

I agree makes no sense that it comes before activation. I think this would make total sense from a user point of view.

I agree. A few reasons, One: they may not have an avatar ready and two: why add extra steps in the age of connects.

Honestly the whole profile creation should be after activation. “thanks for signing up blah blah why don’t you fill out your profile” and then have all the fields available.

Isn’t it also better from a spam point of view (no spam expert I will state) having everything done after confirmation stage?

Yep, I hate to think if an enterprising spammer was creating accounts to upload images.

I’ve put a patch and a ticket up on the trac: https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/2741

Please continue any discussion or thoughts on this ticket on trac.
