READ THIS FIRST – BuddyPress 2.5 Master List

  • BuddyPress 2.5 is here! But OMGWTFPIZZA!? BuddyPress broke everything?

    Don’t panic!

Before you go any further, make sure you’ve updated your plugins and themes to the latest versions, clear your browser’s cache and cookies and re-log into your site.

Still having problems? Okay, read on!

This thread contains the known issues found in 2.5. Please read this WHOLE topic and come back and check again later, as it will be updated.

If you’ve found a problem, here are some basic troubleshooting steps you must try first:

    • Troubleshooting with your browser. Your browser can help you identify JavaScript issues or conflicts and this article can assist you in doing that diagnosis.
    • Deactivate all other plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the other plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin. This will help us understand the problem.
    • Switch to the Twenty Fifteen theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

Remember to be calm, be patient and be respectful. Volunteers are out here to try and help you, but we need your help too. All of the normal forum rules still apply. Remember, you are just as important as everyone else, and that you’re not alone.

    Reported problems

    undefined function bp_blogs_delete_activity
The Blogs component makes an assumption that the Activity component is always active. A temporary workaround is to enable the Activity component on your BuddyPress.
This issue has been investigated and fixed for v2.5.1 — #6937

problems adding multiple recipients to private message
HTML markup is shown instead of the selected recipient being added (screenshot).
This issue has been investigated and fixed for v2.5.1 — #6935

private message autocomplete is missing CSS styles / does not look correct
This was hidden by the “problems adding multiple recipients to private message” problem.
This issue has been investigated and fixed for v2.5.1 — #6939

“situations” are not visible when add/editing emails
Instead of a list situations when BuddyPress sends emails, an empty list is shown, but you can see checkboxes (screenshot).
This issue has been investigated and fixed for v2.5.1 — #6936

Plugins “WP-Mail-SMTP” and “Easy WP SMTP” and others that tell WordPress to send via SMTP don’t work.
This issue has been investigated and fixed for v2.5.1. Further improvements have been made for v2.5.3 — 6945

On some sites, emails aren’t sent, or not delivered.
This issue is under investigation. Some fixes have been made for v2.5.1. Further fixes are planned for v2.5.3 — 6947, 6999, 7009

Sending emails cause PHP Fatal Errors when using versions of WordPress older than v4.3.
We recommend you always run the latest version of WordPress, and this is the workaround for this problem until a fix is released in a later BuddyPress version.
This issue has been investigated and fixed for v2.5.2 — 6970

Friendship accepted email is not sent
This issue has been investigated and fixed for v2.5.2 — 6969

Things that aren’t problems, or intentional changes

    wp_mail_fromorwp_from_name filters
Prior to v2.5.3, if you’ve been using the wp_mail_from or wp_from_name filters, these do not work between versions BuddyPress 2.5 and 2.5.3. As of 2.5.3, support for these two filters have been reinstated.

We still recommend anyone building any BuddyPress-specific functionality to use BuddyPress’ versions of these filters, as described here: https://buddypress.org/support/topic/bp-2-4-x-to-2-5-wp_mail_from-not-working-with-new-emails-in-bp/#post-250532

The emails aren’t in my language, and the “repair” tool — it does nothing!
The Language Pack for your language has not been updated for BuddyPress 2.5 yet. See https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp-plugins/buddypress/language-packs for the newest translation pack; it must say “version 2.5.0”.

To help translate BuddyPress in your language, read the translator’s handbook. You can find BuddyPress on GlotPress here (only “Stable” needs to be translated).

    Last updated 19th April 2016 between v2.5.2 and v2.5.3.
