[Resolved] Upgraded to 1.6, now I can’t even get into the Dashboard!

Hi, as stated I just upgraded and I can’t get access to the WP Dashboard. The site looks fine, it just can’t get behind the scenes. When I type in the site and try to get in through /wp-admin I’m presented with only the following error.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function bp_loggedin_user_id() in /home/content/84/7713384/html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/bp-core-template.php on line 1108

Can someone provide some clarification as to what exactly is happening right now? Thanks in advance!

Likely a theme issue. What theme are you using? Has your theme been updated for BP 1.6? Rename your theme’s folder via FTP/FileManager/etc so it will go to default Twenty Eleven theme. When you get into wp-admin, change theme to bp-default theme.

Gah! My theme was discontinued from where I bought it. It’s called gratitude by zen themes. I didn’t even think of compatibility when I updated. Completely my fault.

I renamed the theme in the ftp manager and tried going into dash after that, and still got the same error. Is there another way around?

The next thing I’d try is renaming the plugins folder so that it deactivates all your plugins (in case you are experiencing a conflict).

Thanks Sarah, just tried that but still cannot gain access to anything. In fact, I get a new set of errors.

Warning: require_once(/home/content/84/7713384/html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-loader.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/content/84/7713384/html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress-mobile/buddypress-mobile.php on line 17

    Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘/home/content/84/7713384/html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-loader.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/local/php5/lib/php’) in /home/content/84/7713384/html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress-mobile/buddypress-mobile.php on line 17

Is there a way to change themes and/or disable buddypress through ftp?

Yes. Just rename the folder of your active theme as in e.g. wp-content/themes/yourthemename-changeit and for plugins, just rename the whole plugin folder wp-content/plugins-renamed/ and then go to yoursite.com/wp-admin/

Wonderful! It worked with only renaming the plugins folder. I’ve since changed it to the twentyeleven theme.

Now, if I have a compatible theme and apply that, the plugins should all work correctly as they did before the issue with the incompatible theme. Right?

It depends if the plugin is compatible with latest WP 3.4.1 and BP 1.6. I would stick with the bp-default theme while you activate the plugins batch by batch (after you’ve checked that they are compatible) and then change to a BP-compatible theme.

    Great. Marking this as resolved.

Do we know which plugin caused the original problem?

Yeah, sorry for the delayed responce. It was two plugins actually. Buddypress mobile and “BP custom background for user profile”.

I cant replicate the BP mobile issue. I upgraded a 1.5 site just know to 1.6.1 and did not got any errors. I suggest in the future you deactivate all plugins before upgrading BuddyPress.

Well when I did the upgrade it was to 1.6. Maybe it was fixed in 1.6.1?

Believe me I’ve learned my lesson and will most certainly deactivate in the future.

Again thanks for all the help guys!
