sendmail/mercury

    Hi

I’m taking my first steps with wmpu and buddypress, and have got it running on my laptop with windows2000 and xampp. Rather than getting a robust sytem working and going live, I’m looking to get a ‘proof of concept’ up and running just on the laptop. Current problem is that I’m not clear what I should be doing to get the emails sent out when setting up new users : I want to create several dummy users, with their own logons, and as part of the new user registration, an email is generated. Do I need to be sorting out Mercury or sendmail? I’ve got Mercury running but am getting a msg about not being able to relay localhost msgs.

    Any help appreciated.

I had the same problem installing locally on my vista box. I tried setting up mercury and some other email server and just gave up on it. It wasn’t worth the trouble. I wound up just creating users through site admin > users > add user

I’ve successfully setting up mercury mail. But can’t remember how. There’s are alternatives software in windows. Try hmailserver. So easy to configure.

I’m wanting to log in as a number of users to create dummy profile. If I use the site admin > users > add users it creates a password for the user but emails it. So without getting a hold of the email I can’t log in as them. (Or am I missing something?)
