Twenty Twelve and Buddypress 1.7

    Hey everyone, I wanted to change to the twenty twelve theme for my bp site since it should be compatible now with the 1.7 version however there are some problems for my site when I activated twenty twelve.

    1, The membership directory is all messed up, first you have to click on a link to see all the members rather than it showing all the members right away. And when the members are visible they are all squeezed together so that the profile information becomes unreadable.

    Is there a way to use the bp-default membership directory template? I tried to insert the members-loop.php to my twenty twelve theme but no luck so far? Anyone has any advice to fix this?

    2. The second issue is that the login sidebar seems to be below the content for some pages.

    Thanks for taking the time to read this and I would really appreacite some help on these problems.

    And please explain what setup you had prior to switching, as it will help to understand what has gone wrong. As far as things go 2012 works fine  with 1.7.

    Hi Hugo thanks for the reply! I had a specific buddy-press child theme previously. You are right after more research the sidebar issue seems to only happen on the membership directory page which is customized by including some key profile fields.

    Do you have any advice on how would I customize the membership directory page with 2012 and bp 1.7? I had previously just edited the members-loop.php but now it seems not to be working anymore?

    If you don’t change anything, Twenty Twelve works perfect with Buddypress 1.7

    Hey Gianni, well I still need to find out how to customize the membership directory page to make twenty twelve work for me, if anyone knows I would appreciate if anyone could move me towards the right direction.

    @jaimebib where are  your bp template files located? If you had copied over bp template before to your theme e.g /my-theme-folder/members/ then technically you are telling BP not to use the new theme compatibility mode.

    You may want to try removing those files, and allowing BP to run in theme compat mode then if you need to customize templates you copy them from /bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/ to /my-theme/buddypress/ if you then include a file named buddypress.php ( a copy of page.php ) in that folder you can reset the sidebar call to a named sidebar ‘buddypress’ and into that sidebar copy all your mods you had.

    Hey @hugo I was using a bp child theme thats located in my regular wp content/theme folder the twenty twelve theme is also located there. I’m not sure what you mean twenty twelve works fine with buddypress right now…

    I just need to be able to customize the member directory template,

    The reason why i need to customize the membership directory template is

    a, You have to click on All members when you get to the memership directory page instead of automatically showing all the members

    b, Since i have some extra profile fields showing in the membership directory it becomes distorted and fields are all over the place

    You can run in theme compat mode i.e no BP folders directly in the theme root, or for that matter any BP templates in the theme then create a folder in the theme named ‘buddypress’ or ‘community’ into that you copy the templates from /bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/ e.g /members/index.php and/or /members/members-loop.php  preserving the folder structure to your new folder in theme root now you can copy the mods you had to those files and see how things pan out.

    Still stuck at this moment..I have tried creating the buddypress folder on my theme root and moving the files I would like to customize but for some reason no changes happen on the front end, its like wordpress does not recognize that the folder and files are in the theme root.

    I have tried both moving the whole members folder and specefic files that affects the member directory.

    Anyone has any advice or tips on how I could solve this problem?

    Based on that it’s hard to know what’s wrong, did you read / follow that link I gave you. Show us what paths your copied files are in:

    /my-theme/
    page.php
    index.php etc
    /my-theme/buddypress/members/index.php

    These files need to be copied over from the /bp-template/bp-legeacy/buddypress/ directory not simply copies of the files you had before with mods in but I’ve mentioned that earlier.

    Adding a link to your site might help if you have it online.
