What happened to "Add Prebuilt Field''

On Profile Field Setup -> there used to be options to add prebuilt fields eg: country, language, etc

    where did that go?

Or, how do I add country field quickly. The thought of typing out all the countries doesnt excite me AT ALL :)

The prebuilt field options have indeed been removed from 1.1. Andy did not write that code. He thought it was poorly implemented. I agree. I imagine something will be offered to add that feature in a future version.

Perhaps someone will write a plugin to extend the xprofile component to offer a more robust and flexible prebuilt field option. Hint, hint? Any devs out there want a new challenge?

is there at least a quicker way to a over 100 countries?

arnonel, other than directly adding them to DB via a typed out query, or building a query in PHP to enter the values, not really…

XProfile will be getting a pretty hefty update in coming versions to allow for this kind of thing though…

that really sucks. appreciate its coming, but ow…..

    ow ow ow ow

I could do about 10 full WPMU/BuddyPress deployments in the time it takes me to do 1 profile with all countries…

    :)

Marking this as resolved. The next version of BuddyPress will also include a free kitten wearing an orange hat.

Waking up this thread to ask, are prebuilt fields available again or not? Is there a plug-in out there that can add this functionality? I am looking for prebuilt fields for country, state, and year, month, date of birthdate.

It’s not in BP 1.2, and there’s no plugin I’m aware of that can add x-profile fields <i>en mass</i>.

Maybe in BP 1.3? Unless you want to use BP 1.0 and then upgrade to BP 1.2 :)

Has the db format changed that much for xprofile stuff from bp 1.0 to 1.2? I kind of got the impression that xprofile is something that has been on the back-burner for a while, what with lots of other features getting more attention (which is fine by me).

If this is the case you could try creating fields in seperate 1.0 install and then exporting the mysql + importing it into your 1.2 install.

I’m not sure if this is worse practice than install 1.0 and upgrading, but I personally don’t really like the idea of installing a very old version of BP on a system and later upgrading it. It feels ‘cleaner’ to just go straight to 1.2 :)

Didn’t I have explain at your post. Is that not what you meant?

@lightcapturer – Yes, I found where to edit profile fields. Thanks much! I am wondering about pre-built fields now.

Is there an easy way to do this yet? I’d like to be able to show a country dropdown list (e.g. like on http://www.thegallagher.net/country_dropdown.php) but I don’t see a way to add a pre-built list. Even if I did it manually there’s no option to use the full country names with their 2 digit ISO codes as values.

I’d definitely be up for a kitten with an orange hat. ;-)

Just realized that the first field of profile details have changed from the original “Name” to “Home”. This is of course a bit funny, because the contents of the field is “display name”. Did anyone know, how do to restore the first field of profile details, from “home” to “name”?

    Thanks in advance…

Solved now: I have restore it through the database.

I think this option should come back. Because I want to add e.g. Country field to the registration page. I have to add the countries one by one… How can I do that without losing time? With that option of course… We want that option back :)

The xprofile appears to be a great addition, as this is my first site and I appreciate the options it offers. Has anyone found an answer to adding in country/state options for a dropdown? Is there something created where we can add it into the code, or is there a plug-in for this? I have seen it on another site, so not sure if they did it manually or not. thanks!

Thanks! Can you tell me, modemlooper: Does this go in register.php? If so, can you suggest where? Any guidance is appreciated. I recently broke my site by adding some css to functions.php, but I was able to clean it up. Thanks, again!

Was just thinking: maybe I need to add the country dropdown first? I’m a novice. I’ll go see if I can figure it out. Yikes! hah.

Everyone, modemlooper hooked me up w/a country list. Does anyone have a state list and how to add it, just for the U.S., at least?

    Thx in advance.
