WPMU and BP Not Adding User

I am running the lastest version of WP and BP on an IIS 8.5 server. Last week I updated WP to Multisite and I am still using BP on the main site. I tried adding a new user today to the sub-site, but I cannot activate this person. The only when I can even see that I tried creating a new user is under Manage Signups from the Network Admin menu. If I click anything under that user’s name, i am shown a permissions page. I have tried THIS SOLUTION already, but when adding this code, it disables the dashboard for my main site.

Again, I only have BP enabled on the main site, and BP is not network activated. I am assuming the permissions error has to do with BP and not WPMU. since there is similar issues regarding BP. Please help me fix this?

As another user posted a year ago, a quick fix is to network enable BP and all is well. So my next question would be… is there a downside with having BP network enabled when it will only be used on 1/3 sites?

You might also want to try BP 2.5-RC1:

    BuddyPress 2.5.0 Release Candidate 1

I believe the issue might be fixed there.

So my next question would be… is there a downside with having BP network enabled when it will only be used on 1/3 sites?

If you are using the site tracking feature in BuddyPress (Settings > BuddyPress > Components), then you would need to leave BuddyPress network activated.

Otherwise, except for taking up some PHP memory, there isn’t any downsides.

The original issue was resolved when activating BP at the network level.

I did just update to the latest release, and possibly discovered a bug. When attempting to add an existing user to sub-site, no email gets sent for verification. If I check the box to accept and not send an email, the user gets added and has instant access to the site.
