WSOD in wp-admin activating ’site tracking’ (upgrade from 1.2.9 -> 1.5)

    @rogercoathup

    We have a large existing site 1.2.9 that we are trying to upgrade to 1.5

    Upgrading is causing a WSOD in wp-admin if we enable the site tracking BuddyPress component.

    We’ve switched to the bp-default theme, de-activated all plugins (except BP). We gradually isolated the problem to the site tracking component, by progressively turning off the components as we ran the 1.5 activation wizard.

    Notes:
    The WSOD occurs when we click continue at the final step in bp activation wizard, or when we try to re-enable site tracking from components and hit save settings.

    The WSOD only occurs in wp-admin, the front end of the site is still operational.

    Any pointers to the hooks / execution sequence that could be causing the issue? I assume it’s somewhere in the interaction with / upgrade of the existing site database, as we can do a clean install without problem.
