Is it possible to allow users to login with their email OR username?

I assume you know the email login plugin? Do you mean you want to give the user the choice, have either work?

Peter , yes to both questions.

As the username comes up in the user’s URL , some users might prefer usernames and others might prefer emails.

Would be nice to give the user an option.

With that email login plugin, you can login with either your username or your email address.

Just one question now – where do you change the wording of the right-hand column for login in buddypress 1.2.1 to say : “email or username ” ??

You have two options to edit the string:

1) Edit the language label (preferred)

The “username” can be modified with a custom language file.

I use the program, PoEdit, to make such changes.

2) Edit the template

The login form can be found in /bp-themes/bp-default/sidebar.php.

Copy it over to your child theme and edit accordingly.

Thanks Ray – I am able to create an .mo file with Poedit , but struggling with the step that says that you need command line access??

I am using filezilla – not sure if that is the best program?

I use FileZilla; just use it to upload the .mo / .po files to the server.

Make sure you also add the lines in bp-custom.php as noted in the how-to guide.

@r-a-y : after installing the email login plugin, i was able to login using my email address without activating my account. I need the activation thing.. is there a solution for it?
