Yeah, that’s how I pictured it as well. Trouble is, I’m not great with jQuery so that’s going to take some studying up. This project might be saved for a rainy day.
Hmmm good point. Definitely worth checking out, however I still run into figuring out how to show/hide info depending on what they select from the drop-down. Not sure how to go about this…
Okay I have an idea, but I need something to let me know if its possible.
Is it possible to NOT send users an activation email from Buddypress, and instead send them to a “Step 2″ type of page when they submit? I’m thinking the user fills out “Step 1″ which is the full profile. When they are finished, they click to go to “Step 2″ which has the Aweber email submission. When they “finish,” they only receive the Awebber verification email.

For anyone else searching this same issue and landing on this thread. The file you may need to check is bb-config.php. You’ll notice it looks very similar to wp-config.php:

If you are unsure about any of these settings, ask your webhost.
Okay well its the darndest thing…
I created a brand new group (the first I’ve created since updating bb-config.php) and successfully posted a topic. Everything appears to be working fine!
Osha, all of the above is my way of saying – check your bb-config.php file, located in your root folder. Make sure you have the correct `BBDB_NAME`, `BBDB_USER`, `BBDB_PASSWORD` and `BBDB_HOST` filled in. At least that’s where the solution was for me.
Okay, I solved half of the equation. I checked bb-config.php and realized I had never updated my database name, username, password or MySQL hostname, like I did for wp-config.php (funny, nobody ever mentioned that file for every migration tutorial I’ve seen).
I also made sure that the line `$bb->uri = ‘http://www.yoursite.com/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-forums/bbpress/’;` was correct.
Doing these, I can now post topics to groups that were existing before. I still can’t post to a brand new group. I still receive the “This group does not have a forum setup yet” error.
I’m having this same problem and I have disabled all plugins and reverted to the bp-default theme – no luck. I also can’t find a solution to this anywhere.
Everything works fine on my localhost version, but things went haywire when I transferred the site and my database to the server. All my bugs up until now have been database-related, and considering my admin panel no longer had Forums for Groups activated at first (even though it was prior to transfer, and all my other settings were saved just fine), I think this might be as well.
Also, I only receive the “This group does not have a forum” error when I try to post a new topic to a new group I create, post-migration. If I try to post a new topic to an existing group, that I previously set up while on my localhost, I receive the error “There was an error when creating the topic.”
A nice add-on for this would be great!
And you’re right, after playing around with this today, I got the badges to appear on the profile as I wanted them, but that just led to “Ok, but I don’t want them all to show, only the most recent or this will get cluttered…etc etc.”
So I really like your solution of appending a label based on score – this would be perfect for what I’m trying to accomplish. I know you just hacked your way through this, but could you shed a little light on how you went about it? I know how to pull in the score where I want it, I just don’t know how to convert that score to a certain label.
I figured out how to manage these, but after playing around with the badges on the profile, I’m leaning more towards the solution you mentioned in http://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/showing-user-authority/, which included appending a label based on score. I think it is just cleaner this way, just have to figure out how!
Thanks! After trying both, I think I like the badges better – I won’t be emphasizing total points much on my site, more like “levels” through the use of the badges. A couple followup questions (pardon my lack of PHP knowledge):
1) I like this being in the members list alongside the user name, is there a way to pull it in beside users’ names when they comment or reply in a thread? Which file would I edit?
2) This might seem like an easy one – when inserting your code above, how can I resize the badge image to something a little smaller? When beside the name, the full badge icon is a little much.
3) How can I apply this to the top of users’ profile? I’d like their badge icons to be visible in the top right corner of the member-header. Kind of a quick-view of their “level” without having to click into their Achievements tab.

Well everyone I appreciate you taking a look at this, I found the solution to my styling issue at the Paralleus support forum for my theme, Salutation: http://para.llel.us/support/groups/salutation-wordpress/. Just log in and search ‘achievements’ and you’ll find a long thread that will take you through it. A couple other issues popped up but hopefully nothing that causes the headaches that this one did.

Paul, can you direct me to a specific file that might be causing this? Achievements will play a huge role in my site and I’m determined to solve this one, I just don’t know where to start (also, the answer will lead me to fixing the same issues I’m seeing with Album+, so I can get photos going as well).
Couple points to add – the entire layout of these tabs changes and I lose the changes I’ve to bp-custom.php, which was to reorder the tabs.

Thanks. I’m using a theme with Buddypress compatibility (Salutation by Parallelus). I didn’t think I needed the BP Template Pack but its worth looking into.
Hmm, I’m assuming you mean the members and groups folders within my theme – in which case no, I just checked and there isn’t a plugins.php file in either one. There also isn’t one in forums, blogs or activity (not sure if that matters).
I’m curious, if everything works fine in all of my default tabs, why would I be looking specifically at members and groups? Also, where would I get the correct plugins.php files to place in these folders?
