This plugin is actively updated so you may love this. Note that this is different from bp media plugin that @mercime has shared just above. It has features like multiple file upload, album support and more. You can also check the demo page here.

As far as I know, currently there is no plan for BuddyPress to integrate multimedia sharing as core feature.

BuddyPress Media Kaltura CE component is no more supported. The current version BuddyPress Media is available here which is not depend upon Kaltura.

Nice move JJJ. It is really needed!
Earlier, most of the bp plugins dev. give support only at BuddyPress group. But most of the users who installed buddypress based plugin look for support on WordPress.org forums only, not here. So this arouse confusion and that is not good for the WordPress community at all.
Another thing to be appreciated is that when I clicked on plugins link at plugins section, it directs to the WordPress.org. That is great! So no dev. will direct their users to this site to download their plugin but to WordPress.
Keep on rocking mates… Looking forward for 1.7 release
