Thanks for the suggestions. I will try both of them.
You are right I think that the links themselves load fairly quickly
it is the CSS for the background that makes them visible
that comes down last. -

I case it wasnt clear on the Blog Category page for instance I want to add a paragraph at the top
before the posts ’loop’.
Which page do I edit and where exactly do I place my html?
If it uses the page.php template then how can I have defferent text at the top of each category?

What a waste of time.
Yes Ive tried Ms method too. It is not enough by itself.So – basically BP users who are content with the default settings of bbpress now have it easy.
But anyone who wants to install plugins for bbpress finds it a nightmare. -
