Thanks for all the input. BUT I am seriously and urgently looking for a media (only photo will do) plug in – paid or free – that will allow just 3 things without any hitch or bump for BUDDYPRESS 1.7 beta :
- ability to create album and upload photo with chosen privacy
- ability to directly mark or tag on photo</li
- comment to a photo from both activity stream and on the page itself`
BP Album is broken with BP 1.7
BP Media photo commenting from activity stream is buggy+ it has no photo marking
BuddyPics keeps on giving error message : Warning: Division by zero in C:\xampp\htdocs\wordpress\wp-content\plugins\BuddyPics-master\includes\bpa.template.tags.php on line 84 etc and does not actually upload a photo (fresh install of latest WP, BP 1.7, no other plugin)BP Gallery – does it work ok with BP 1.7? Does it allow photo marking? Please answer if you know, also a link to a demo site with BP gallery + photo marking + BP 1.7 beta will be really really helpful.
Demand is a strange thing, many users will come and download, and see that “basic”features are not there and will just move away to other scripts silently without much complaining.
Features are more or less defined by current standards OR like Apple who innovate and people think, OMG we did need this!
All real world social nets as well as scripts like Elgg, Oxwall etc have working media and event – it does NOT matter to most of us if it is in core or plug in because at the end of the day users of my site will use it, and it matters to them if they are able to use it satisfactorily and upto their current set of expectations.
I really have waited for 3 years or more, made repeated requests ….
Media – at its very basic should have photos/albums and ability to comment both from activity stream and in the page itself ( same comment) plus mark directly on photo.
Event – at its very basic – who will attend – Yes | No | Maybe
OT – commenting to blog from activity stream was never incorporated as well as privacy setting for blog ( friends only etc) AND inabilty to have different class/group of friends have been there for too long.
@mercime Thanks! Events Manager is too convoluted and does not have basic features of an Event plugin ( who will attend/ not attend/may attend) – it is also not integrated with activity stream, that is, no comments can be made from activity stream to the event. In comparison – you can see oxwall.org which comes with integrated event (as well as photo)
BP Album is broken with BP 1.7 while BP Media is buggy with 1.7 and lacks tagging or marking directly on photo, a basic feature that is part of all real world social nets as well as scripts like elgg (free) or phpfox(paid).
Any solution?
Currently no photo plugin with phot0 tagging works with Buddypress 1.7
Is it compatible with current versions?
Where isa link to download it and test?
@bphelp that does not answer the questions
Two very important things as I am testing 1.7 but not finding
1 . How do I let a site member block another site member from posting to him/ seeing her profile and activities?
2. How do a site member makes her blog post / photo viewable to a friend/friends only?
3. How to post comment to a blog post from activity ( see oxwall.org) ?
I had the problem of “no submit button” on status message with the latest BP – it was due to some other plugin using some sort of jquery. I had to disable one by one and get back the “submit button”. Thus apparently it was not fault of the latest BP. You have mentioned you have turned off all BUT sometimes, I have seen, js files remaining in browser /server cache/memory whatever.
What happens (for member pages) if it is ordered by alphabetical ?
Stubborn files not getting deleted may be deleted by FTP or Control Panel/Admin Panel of your webhost but this may also break things so backup!
A good idea will be test things on locathost with WAMP or similar, with latest stable BP and WP and see whether things are working for you. If they do work, it will mean cleaning/changing files manually and/or db tables will get the things back in shape.
I am not a pro, in fact really have no expertise but these are somethings I do myself when stuck.
Hmm Does BP 1.5 solve this?
No I have not.
3 things are needed and I visited the dev’s homepage but apparently he is not currently accepting any custom work.
This plugin is one of the central, if not the central theme of a current social net, which is shifting from just friends to async. befriending/following. The 3 things are:1. showing the pics of following and followers in a sidebar widget of the profile being visited, with a more or view full link
2. ability to deny a follower if I dont like
3. ability to invite followers and following in groups
Since the concept of generic friends no longer exists and is dead (now there are frriends lists or circles, and this is *not* same a s groups) buddypress seems to be dated. Followers-Following with the right interface and features can somewhat save the day

Inviet = Invite, typo

@stwc sorry to bother you again. I saw your site and thats cool!
One thing, I got that snippet working but how to make “Reply” vanish selectively for the blog posts and blog comments ?Another thing, have you been able to add “Favorite” button in the blog post itself so that there is something like “Like”(wordpress.com Like not FB) below the blog posts itself also?
@stwc oh sorry! Got the link, will check out. Thnx again!
Thanks Ray, but I need to show (as any social network will do) blog posts in the stream. Think of FB Notes, their equivalent of blog, where users can reply both from stream or in the Notes (blog) itself. Its difficult and confusing for readers if blog is not truly integrated. More so when album=photo blog does this but wp blog=text blog does not do this. This is broken UX and workflow for users.
@stwc can you kindly give the link and is there any working site demo-ing this? Thanks a lot for the tips!
Is buddypress.org using latest WP+BP+ latest Buddypress Follow.
I cannot seem to get them work though they worked in the previous versions. Its a fresh install of atest WP+BP+ latest Buddypress Follow but Follow button or sidebar widget does not show up.
I am badly stuck up – any idea to get this working? The title should read – Need help to make ”Like” work in WP 3.2 and latest BP together
When I clicked Edit Topic there is a message – Page not foundWhere can I find a list of files that has been changed (and those untouched) via a comparison between BP 1.2.8 and 1,2,7? I am sure it was somewhere but not finding that currently.
Savannah, the groups of friends are for my convenience. Why shall ‘they’ join the groups? Social networking is supposed to be an easy experience and not round-about way of doing things. Also if each member has such closed groups imagine the number of groups shooting up like anything which will be closed to the community.
This cannot be the solution.
Savannah, ummm?
Buddypress has ‘generic’ friends. But friends can be of various types or groups:
for example:
close buddies
office collegues
parents etcFacebook , Orkut etc lets group your friends according to your choice/privacy.
Script like elgg at elgg.org allows to group friends into ‘collections.’
Thus when you post a blog or picture you specify which collection can see it:
close buddies
office collegues
parents
all etcJust generic “friends” seems prehistoric
and this is an immediate requirement involved site members are asking otherwise sharing content is becoming critically impossible w.r.t what to share with whom.Any clue?
The default crop results in a final image that is different from default crop area shown.
Moving the crop handle even slightly results in proper cropping.
This is confirmed to occur in all browsers in all congurations in all fresh installs of fresh WP 3 and fresh latest downloadable BP 1.2.5.2.@egoasterisco hello! Thanks a lot. Your solution seems to be working

Same problem.
New installs of WP3 as sub-dir MS and BP 1.2.5.2. And BP-album 0.17. All fresh.Photo get uploaded but not displayed.
