Michael Kuhlmann
You found me! No? Oh, you were looking for that other Michael Kuhlmann. Well, that's okay. Before you wander off into the wonderful Web, let me tell you a bit about myself, since you're already here. I started messing around with web design when MS FrontPage was still "considered" a decent HTML editor and before the *blink* tag deprecated. In the pre-Creative Suite days, I started dabbling with Adobe Photoshop when it was at its 2.5 release, which means I can navigate through 30+ layers in one psd file. Prior to my career as a web designer, I was a news editor whose work was published in The New York Times, The San Diego Union-Tribune and The San Diego Business Journal. Now, I mainly scoop up my dog's poop. Thanks for dropping by and enjoy the rest of your day! MFG, MK =)

@xsn0w @xsn0w yeah, everything is a bit quirky right now. the majority of all child themes broken right now, because of the loading order of the css — child theme gets loaded before the default, not vice versa. there’s patch for dumping dtheme’s own css rules in favor of yours, but that would require you to style every element yourself; i…[Read more]

@mercime @mercime oh you can definitely count on a bp forum ambush of people trying to figure out why their themes aren’t displaying properly, haha. do you know if “function bp_dtheme_enqueue_styles()” (like you mentioned in comment 3 — http://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3389) will end up in codex for child themes? if so, i’d rather…[Read more]

@mercime @mercime Hey there, do you know what the latest status is on this http://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3389? I haven’t tried any of the suggestions yet, but from the final thread, it sounds like these new child themes won’t behave like previous child themes if we can’t piggyback on the default css, since we’re overriding it. I…[Read more]

Doing a test run for child theming and couldn’t figure out why some style rules displayed and others didn’t until I realized that BP Default is loaded after the child theme instead of before. Anybody else getting this or did […]

I created mine by using this service http://www.favicon.cc/ and uploading the .ico file to the root of my site and another copy within my theme folder. Seems to work =)

Sorry, yes. Should’ve clarified my answer above. Only one instance of BP per WP/MS like @mercime said.

Michael Kuhlmann posted on the forum topic Confused about multisite install in the group Installing BuddyPress:
Yes, you can still create normal WP sites like always and, yes, they will be *BP-enabled* so to speak. It doesn’t mean that your new site owner will see the difference on the front- and back-end, aside from the BP admin bar, which you can disable in you wp-config.php file by adding this line — [...]

Michael Kuhlmann posted on the forum topic Is BuddyPress capable of this? in the group Miscellaneous:
I use Gravity Forms to do this, although you could also look into TDO mini forms (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tdo-mini-forms/) if you’re not keen on spending any money. I will say this… the GA plugin is *the* best plugin I’ve ever splurged on, bar none.

Thanks you two! =) I vote we build in some sort of notification system to this forum, because I had no idea someone responded to this post just till today! Anywho, I also beefed up the BP signup page… http://avenuek9.com/signup/ … might tweak it some more but I’m fighting all urges not to introduce any [...]

@Travel-Junkie It’d be helpful if WP/Automattic (read: entity that provides mega-spotlight/massive exposure) would come out with an *Official* Kickstarter-like WP site solely devoted to curbing these funding issues (case in point: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1104350651/tiktok-lunatik-multi-touch-watch-kits). So it’s 1.11.11 and I’ve just re-launched my pet site (literally) at http://avenuek9.com, after one too many days of sleepless nights. I think this fares well with what’s possible through some CSS and child theming. It really doesn’t use a “boatload” of plugins anymore… mainly just the ones to speed up the site. Anywho, if [...]
