@Al B Here is what I feel you need to do:
1. Click on the Group.
2. Click on “Admin” tab in the group.
3. This should take you to your groups settings. You should see a sub menu showing “Details”, :Settings”, “Avatar:…etc
4. Click on settings and make sure “Enable Discussion Forum” is checked.
5. Save
6. Now if you click on the forum tab you should see something.
I want the forum feature that Yahoo has. Where you can post a comment, but another user has the ability to reply to an existing comment.

Well while certainly not “easy”, I think its definitely possible, and a reasonable request for buddypress.
Here is the design:
1. When creating a topic, add an option to override avatar and upload an image for a topic.
2. When topics are displayed, there should be a check to see if a custom topic image was specified for the particular topic. If so display it, if not, display creator avatar…
Yeah I saw that but I have questions with this. Which file do I put the code the author suggests in? There does not seem to be a mention of that.
