BP adding ’-2’ to username slug after editing profile

Hi Yall,
I’m having the strangest problem. I have a buddypress profile at ‘mysite.com/members/username’, but every time I save the WP profile ( we are still using that and cimy extra fields ), the permalink for the user adds a ‘-2’.
It’s happened several times.
username-2-2-2-2-2-2 is not cool, huh?

Anyone point me in the right direction here? I’m puzzled!

Have you recently changed anything in the core files of buddypress?

This happens when there is a php screw up, when you have made a change to the files.
