Buddy Press and Multi Site

    Hi,

I hope this is the right place for this topic. I’m new to this forum.

What I want to do is set up is a membership style on the Genesis platform that uses the Buddy Press extended profiles. I have had a custom directory plugin for business listings that ties into the Buddy Press user profiles. I use S2 member to protects some content and pages from non site members. It is compatible with Buddy Press.
RE Multi Site, related to the area of business the site is about I want to allow some businesses to have their own URL via a multi site installation. This will make it easier to manage the sites for these businesses.
Assuming the Genesis platform, the Genesis child themes, and Buddy Press are all compatible, I understand plug-ins are network wide. Will I be able to restrict what plug-ins a sub URL on the network can access? I don’t want or need the sub sites to have membership software or have Buddy Press profiles. All these sites require is the standard WordPress user system? They will basically brochure sites dedicated to their own specific area business, with the main site being the community and membership site. The main site requires Buddy Press and a number of plug-ins the individual sub sites wont require. We want to keep the managed sub sites simple. If Buddy Press is network wide does that mean any user signing in to s sub site will have to fill out a Buddy Press profile and end up being part of the network site?
As an alternative, would it be a better idea to have one site for the membership. Then a separate network site created specifically with what those sub sites require. It would be nice to have one site. But if its not compatible or overly complicated, perhaps two sites is better?

    Thanks for your help.

    Phil.

On multisite, all user registration is tunnelled through the same place. This is a standard WordPress behaviour. So yes, they’d see the BuddyPress registration templates.

    Thanks,

You saved me some time. It would appear I’m better off creating a network with a specific structure designed to best suite the site requirements of the site’s on the network. The membership site will be a separate installation with its own specific functions etc.

    Thx, again,

    Cheers,

    Phil.
