changing urls from blogname to username

i am creating a version 2 of my website and i want the member profile to be accessible from http://username.example.com,
the blog can be via /blog i guess but im still undecided about this
how can i make it so the username gets picked up by wildcard dns and not the blogname, and once i have setup that how can i make sure the profile is displayed, not the blog
im trying to make it similar to bebo whereby users can access thier profile via username.bebo.com
