When a subscriber is trying to add a topic to a group forum, it throws the error “There was an error when creating the topic”. The topic itself gets created but is now visible in the forum section for the subscriber but can view it under the individual group’s forum section. When I login as admin and try, it works like a charm. I have been advised that by editing the individual group’s setting by disabling the forum, saving it and reenabling it supposedly fix the issue. But no luck in my case.
Could someone please advise on how to debug and get rid of the error and resolve the issue?

Hi again.

Compare /bb-config.php and /wp-config.php files; usually they are in the root of your web directory. Do the database name, username, password etc in bb-config match wp-config? If not, update bb-config.php to match wp-config. (Then try this group re-enable toggle again).

Thanks for the quick response. I have verfied the dbname, username etc in bb-config and wp-config and they match to the correct settings. Could this be to do with some permission settings as it works fine with admin user? Is there any way to set debug log to get further details on the exception?

Is the user a member of the group where you are trying to create the topic?

What is the privacy level of the group in question?

What versions of WP/BP? What theme? What other plugins? Are you able to reproduce this error with all plugins but BP disabled, using the bp-default theme?

Yes, the user is member of the group, infact the owner of the group.

Privacy level is set as below
“
This is a private group•Only users who request membership and are accepted can join the group.
•This group will be listed in the groups directory and in search results.
•Group content and activity will only be visible to members of the group.
“
For public goups, it works fine.

The version of WP is 3.3.1 and 1.5.5 of BP.
Applied theme is BuddyPress Default 1.5.5
The defaul wordpress installation/theme is Tachyon 1.1 by RocketTheme, LLC

Yes, I can reproduce the issue with all plugins disabled.

I have tested this using the base version WP 3.3.1 and 1.5.5 of BP as a plugin as well and it failed again. I have tested this on Mac using MAMP. It seems to be bug to me & I am surprised not to see too many posting on the issue
