I’m slightly confused on the difference between a group and a forum. It looks like on this site they have combined the two but on testbp.org they are two separate things.

Also, I know you can subscribe to an individual thread but can you subscribe to an entire forum or a group? The key being I want to get notifications when a new thread is created in either.

testbp.org uses both the BuddyPress and the bbPress plugins.

bbPress has its own built-in forum subscription feature; BuddyPress does not have a group forum subscription feature built-in.

However, there is a BuddyPress plugin that enables members to subscribe to a group – BP Group Email Subscription:

So to allow users to subscribe to an individual forum (to be notified of a new thread) it looks like I would have to create a group for each forum and use the plugin you recommended?
