Issue with syncing Buddypress profile fields and WordPress profile fields (user display name and suc

  • Avatar of kuching

My WP is 3.3.1 and Buddypress is latest 1.5.4, I’m running a simple localhost installation

In BP profile fields there’s a field for “name” which I believe corresponds to WP login name… must be all lowercase and I assume can’t be changed (?)

I don’t see other fields such as… first name / last name / nickname and most importantly display name, actually I don’t see any other of the standard WP fields (anyway the others are not so important)

I might have messed up something while customising the BP profile fields/groups, on the other hand I don’t know how to allow users to select their first / last name and most importantly the display name

as a matter of fact, when a user updates his BP profile, since there’s no field for “display” name, his username becomes blank!! (it means if I try to get things as author name or get currentuser display name… I get nothing!)

disabling profile syncing of course can fix this (however I still have to re-enter manually name, family name, display name in wordpress backend)

is there any way to achieve a good synchronization using only BP profile fields?

also I would need this to support localisation

    thank you

is this the issue I’m experiencing?

looks like fixed in 1.6, is it?

By default, BP has only that ‘name’ profile field. All BuddyPress profile fields are separate and distinct from any field in the WP user profile. For example, creating a field in BP called ‘biography’ won’t have any link or relation to the WP profile field of the same name.

The “profile syncing” option in BP, I believe, only tries to take your BP profile field ‘Name’, and separating on a space, populate WP profile’s First name, Last name, and Display Name fields.
