Major Disconnect Between BuddyPress and bbPress

Where to begin. So many problems!

I’m running WP 3.4.2, BP 1.6.1, Social theme by WPMU. I have “Forums for Groups” set up. Each state has its own private group, and each group has 1 stickied forum entry called “FORUM RULES.”

I have a test user who is joined to the group “North Dakota.” The North Dakota forum has the one stickied entry. Here are the results of clicking through to various portions of my site:

mysite.com/community/members/testuser/ –> no forum activity appears
mysite.com/community/activity/ –> forum activity appears as expected
    mysite.com/community/members/testuser/forums/ –> error = “no topics found”
    mysite.com/community/forums/ –> error = “no topics found”
mysite.com/community/groups/north-dakota/ –> forum activity appears as expected

Now, before you blame this on my theme, be aware that this same type of problem is happening right here on buddypress.org. For example:

buddypress.org/community/members/jimmybarr/activity/ –> “Sorry, there was no activity found. Please try a different filter.” –> even though I have 5 forum posts on buddypress.org

buddypress.org/community/members/jimmybarr/forums/ –> This area is completely blank! Not even an error message to be found!

  • Before you do draw a comparison between ‘Here’ and your site or bp default know that ‘Here’ is a special case in respect of activity, you need to change your display name to other than your username and streams will spring into life. As far as I’m aware this isn’t an issue with a stock install of BP so it’s probably wise to check first that your install shows this issue when using the bp default theme fisrt so we can be sure it isn’t theme related.

Hugo’s comment about buddypress.org not being representative of BuddyPress is correct.

Do you think I should switch to BP default theme and uninstall every BP-related plugin, and test it that way? Then, if it works as expected, switch to the theme I want, and test it that way? Then add one plugin at a time and see if it is still broken?

    How would you approach this?

You don’t need to uninstall the plugins, you can just de-activate them (wp-admin will let you do that en masse).

You can then reactivate one at a time – their settings will have been saved in the DB.
