/members/ going to blank pages
I am having issues with everything in the top navigation bar under “Account”. Every link except Logout takes me to a blank page. Not 404. Just blank.
Is this a known issue, or something that’s not supposed to be functional?
Do I have to do something special with the permalinks?
I have trunk r658 installed with WPMU 2.7.
Is wpmu 2.7 out now? Your site says its running “WordPress 2.7″ not “WordPress 2.7-RC1-xxxx” like everyone else. The site in your profile must not be the site you are talking about.
Anyway, the dreaded “white screen of death” probably means you have some errors and it’s just not showing you them. Check your php and apache error logs and report back.
Sounds like the bp member theme is crashing for some reason. Do you have *all* the bp components installed?
The site in my profile is NOT the site I am using for a WPMU-BP test. On the test site, I am using the WPMU 2.7 RC-whatever-it-is.
I DO have all the bp components installed. I made the switch to using the member-themes folder but I’ll take a look at that specifically since you mentioned the theme. Maybe I’ve done something wrong there.
And I’ll check the error logs. Thanks.
These are the errors I’m getting and they ARE theme related:
[Fri Dec 12 06:21:47 2008] [error] [client 184.108.40.206] File does not exist: …/wp-content/themes/buddypress-home/images/background.gif, referer: http://…/wp-content/themes/buddypress-home/style.css
[Thu Dec 11 21:43:13 2008] [error] [client 220.127.116.11] File does not exist: …/wp-content/themes/buddypress-home/custom-styles.css, referer: http://…/wp-content/themes/buddypress-home/style.css
I’ll go hunt down those files, I guess. Beats me why they haven’t been going over with the rest of the files every time I update the trunk.
Well, I can’t find those files in the trunk… What do you think?
Okay, I take it the custom-styles is in case I want to write some. So that explains that.
As for the missing background.gif, got any ideas?
This still doesn’t solve my blank screens. I can see if it is a conflict with another WPMU plugin, maybe the privacy one.
I’m at a total loss. This navigation bar used to work for me until about trunk r571 or so.
I took out my MU plugins one by one and without affecting any change on the navigation bar. Still blank screens.
The BP member theme is here: /wp-content/themes/member-themes/buddypress-member. That’s right?
I am not getting any error messages (as you can see above).
I can’t think of anything else to try. (I haven’t yet added the forum because I’d like to get this working again).
If you would take a look: http://gnowfglins.net/.
Thanks for the help. I appreciate any you can give!
Those errors are normal. Normal? Well, everybody has them for the moment. Nothing to get excited about. The URLs for the menu items you are having problems with are launching stuff in the member theme.
Double check the member theme installation. Should be in /wp-content/member-themes/(stuff here)
Any custom code in your bp install?
Oh! That’s it! I had put /member-themes in /themes/ not /wp-content/!!!!
It is working now! Thank you so much. What a dumb mistake. I read where to put it a million times!
Now I can move on to install the forums!
The condition you describe is a common one for programmers and other geeky type tech people. We are so self-centered that what we do is *always* right and it never occurs to us that no, the source of the problem might be me.
“Can’t be *my* code…”
Then there is my favorite way of dealing with problems. Stare at them until they go away. Hasn’t worked yet but I have high hopes for that one.
What should also be included in this list of ways *not* to solve problems is devloping a raging case of code blindness. The primary symptom is ignoring the obvious. When I was working as a corporate programmer weasel I’d stare at the same piece of code for days and not see the problem it was causing. A co-worker would hear the quiet sobbing in my cubicle and come over to console me and just glance at the code and point out the error of my ways. Smirking and gloating he walks away with a new swing in his stride.
Ya look so stupid until he develops it next week. What goes around comes around. Smirking and gloating I walk away with a new swing in my stride.
Well I have the same problem. Im not a geeky programmer at all, and my directories are in the right location.
Nothing in the navigation works.
No members, no groups etc.
Hosted on Yahoo. Could be the problem
Also when creating a new wpmu blog, 404 error.
