Restricting private messaging to some users.

    @gobangashley

    I’ve asked this question before but was unable to find my original post i’m afraid. I had some more thoughts about it…

    I have a community of only about 30 users and 1 ‘consultant’. I want to prevent the users from being able to send private messages to each other but I would like them all to be able to send messages to the consultant.

    I don’t think there’s any straightforward way of doing this based on roles or similar, so I wondered if I could create friendships between the consultant and the 30 members (but not between each other) and in the ‘Member Buttons’ part of functions.php, test for friendship and only display the private message button if there is a friendship.

    Unfortunately I don’t know where to look for the functions (or are they called actions?) bp_add_friend_button and bp_send_private_message_button

    Does this sound like a possible hack just so I can limit private messaging?

    I’m using CSS to hide the add / cancel friendship button by the way.
