Upgrade option not showing….

Hi, I’m running BP 1.5.5. However, there is no update option showing and I’ve just upgraded to WP3.5 and had to apply the fix to stop the errors showing.
What’s the right way to upgrade if I don’t see that option? And, by ‘right’ I mean the easiest and simplest and less trouble and best, of course!
