Would anyone use Video Chat and Buddypress?

If I were to make a video chat for Buddypress do you think people would want it and use it? It would require a REAL server, not a shared hosting site as well as bandwidth, but I think I could do it as a plugin. But what people want it and use it? Is this a good idea?

CometChat has a pricey plugin at $500 USD that can offer that plus screen sharing. I haven’t heard reviews on it though.

Don’t think it’ll be a widely used plugin, first because it can’t be used on most hosts/servers and second since not a lot of sites actually need it.

Besides that, you’ll get a lot of people nagging that the plugin won’t work on their host/server.

It wont work if your chat require a real server. Most BP sites are on shared hosting sites.

Something like http://www.pcpin.com/ would be great

Team up with a host that can do it. like make a deal with them where they will host your plugin user then your plugin user pay for the hosting. How much would it cost if there just hosting the video and thats it. Im looking for a video chat.

I would be interested to hear more about the project. I already run 123flashchat software, and absolutely love it. It is not currently integrated into bp, but it could be. I run a flash comm cluster in order to use the video chat and live video broadcasting. I would warn people first, that bandwidth is a huge issue with video.

i would use that video chat plugin, in fact! i’ve been searching and there is none…. most of the other sites have one so why don’t we have one! u need to make one @Dfa327. just make sure it is user friendly, not branded, has no ads and can work on our servers, we know it will require a huge amount of bandwidth, but who ever needs it will seek a server with unlimited bandwidth… its that simple…

@Dfa327 You can always set up advance options to have the video chat run on like a cdn as well.

Here’s a customer dying to have access to an affordable video chat service. I love the idea and currently I am using Envolve Chat which I like but I would love this service if it included video chat. Currently I am paying $49.99 to have this service available for my users. Hope this feedback is of some use for you.
