New user – no mail sent at all

    Hi.

    When a new user registers on my site, he is not being sent any welcome/authentication mail. Where am I going wrong?
    I have created the bp-custom.php file as mentioned in one of the threads in wp-content/plugins

    WP 2.9.2
    BP 1.2.3
    webhost: bluehost
