Limmitng User Acess to Group Updates

Hi there A few months ago I posted a similar question but it didn’t really get much attention so I’m going to try again.
I’d like to know if there is a way to limit who can post group updates, while STILL allowing them FULL access to Group Forum posting. Id like to limit group update abilities to admins and mods but allow everyone to post to a group forum. Can this be done?

alternatively, if the above can not be done is there a way to globally turn off the group update feature?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Also I’m not a coder so I’m hoping for a simple solution.

    Thanks rich

Unfortunatly, I’m pretty sure creating child thems is beyound me and I’m not sure how do that while using a Genisis Buddy theme. Maybe @andrea_r has some advice. Also is not soemthing that could be added to your BuddyPress Restrict Group Creation plugin or Deryk’s BuddyPress Announce Group?

I’m very scrade of breaking things when a mess about in the back end.

Not sure you need to create whole child theme just for that. ;)

there’s enough hooks everywhere you should just be able to hook that function before what you want.

@AviM: If you wanted attempt to go the child theme route (which really isn’t that hard at all), you could always just put a bp_group_is_admin conditional around the group activity stream update form on groups/single/activity.php. It’s worked fine for me.

If they’re already using a child theme, they can just add it to that file. ;)
