Using Buddypress and Thesis 1.5.1

Hi all,
I’m trying to upgrade from a very old version of buddypress that played nice with Thesis 1.5.1 to the new buddypress that is not playing nice.

I was advised to use the buddypress Template Pack which I tried but while the buddypress pages showed their content there was little to no formatting. The template pack suggested to alter the html in the index php file but in Thesis everything works on hooks and there was no code that appeared even close to what the template pack suggested should be altered.

I have no idea what I’m supposed to do. I really liked the look of the old buddypress default theme and it allowed me to have wp pages that ran on my separate Thesis theme.

Does anyone have experience trying to get the new buddypress to work with Thesis?

@nunomad – you could try this approach as a workaround –

Keep your main site as a WordPress site based on Thesis template and install BuddyPress in a secondary site (see instructions under docs on here)

That should preserve your hooks in the primary site. You’ll have to do some work with your urls, nav and bp site theming though

Thanks for the suggestion, Roger, but I’m not sure it will work for me. The whole site is a membership site using s2Member, so s2Member needs to govern the functionality of WordPress and Buddypress in an integrated way.

While I don’t have any experience with Thesis, I’ve heard raving reviews about their customer support. Have you been able to check in their forums yet?

@nunomad – as far I’m aware, that wouldn’t be a problem – the sign in and membership would still be unified across both primary and secondary sites.

Perhaps someone with a little more insight re: s2Member could comment on that?
