use an htaccess rewrite rule and switch theme based on mobile device detection

Google it, there is alot of info on internet about htaccess and a few mobile theme switchers in wp plugin repository

You don’t have separate sites. Use the same install. Use htaccess rewrites to show a different url when on mobile and a different theme.

If you don’t care so much about the url it’s easy to show a different theme at the same url. This is the preferred method now. At one time having a dedicated subdomain for mobile was the way but google frowns on this and your links are confusing.

url.com/item should be the same url no matter what device. You just display the content accordingly.

    some theme switch plugins: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search.php?q=theme+switch

Thank you, now got it. Theme switcher looks better option than redirecting user to different URL, I am looking at different theme switcher, thanks for your guidance. @modemlooper

You can do responsive but it’s not so easy with content such as profiles and forums. Because of social sites like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest etc. users are expecting something dedicated and streamlined.
