edit activation email

Hi. I have located a file some have said works for editing the activation email. I have also tried the plugin Welcome Pack, but each have left me searching for a solution.
The Welcome Pack coder confirmed the activation link isn’t linkable, and the file I have examined in the core files: bp-core-filters.php has text and code that looks exactly like what i need, but the activation email is slightly different than the text I get in my activation email. I have attempted to add in my custom text where the current text appears to be, but I must be in the wrong file or wring place to edit the text. I don’t personally think it’s the file since the text doesn’t match up perfectly with the activation email, but what do I know? 😉 I seem close, but still no results.
Any guidance is appreciated. Thanks!
