Profile Syncing in 1.7

As I understand it, the option within BuddyPress Settings, when checked, prevents users from accessing their profile admin area in the WP backend (/wp-admin/profile.php) in favour of sending them to their BuddyPress profile edit area.
I’m no longer able to sync WP and BP profiles after upgrading to 1.7. Wondering if anyone else is experiencing this in 1.7/3.5.1?
