Need "Create group" button not to appear in the page title

Hi,
The default placement for the “Create group” button is within the page title and I need it not to be for a number of reasons, one of which is that I have page titles set as <h2> and IMHO it seems wrong to have a button inside the page heading.
Any ideas as to how I get it to appear elsewhere without having to hack the core files? My fallback for this is to hide it with CSS and put the link where I want it if the user is logged in but I’d rather not do it this way unless I really have to.
Also, on the actual Create a group page the title appends a breadcrumb back to the “Groups” page – this also needs not to happen as it’s inconsistent with the rest of the site. Any clues gratefully received!
