Add another field to a Status Update

Hi Everybody,
I just started using BuddyPress, so excuse my noob questions.

I was just wondering whether there would be a way to add a field to the Status Update form.
I made a quick mock up in MS Paint (lol) of what it would look like:

It looks like a stupid idea in the image above, but for my site it would be really useful.

So could anybody with some skills please help me make it a reality.
