Google maps/ file sharing

I am starting a community site for architects, and I know there is a google maps plugin out there: http://buddypress.org/community/groups/mappress-google-maps-for-wordpress/ – Can anyone give me feedback on this plugin? Is it possible to allow users to add their own map icons/destinations? I want users to be able to add their own destinations, and at the same time upload images and other files associated with that destination.
Basically, I want a search page that looks like the homepage of google maps, and when someone searches a destination, all of the files/images uploaded from different users pop up. On the left hand sidebar, the destination name will show with a list of files. People will be able to download and comment on these files as well.
