Enabling to chose group when registering?

Hey!
I want to know is there a way to create something like that:
In my bp i have 2 groups ex. science and money. When user is registering he can join to 1 group and after registering he can’t join another group or leave this only one he is in.Will this take a lot of work? Any one can reply a little how-to or helpful code?
I’d appreciate any help.[edit:found plugins that may help, only custiomization them is needed]
